Hanging artwork and photos can add a lot to the presentation of your home. In this segment, I will outline an easier way to measure and mark walls when hanging a picture.
Step 1 – Place the frame face down on a flat, clutter-free surface.
Step 2 – Don’t use a measuring tape. I used to measure the distance between hangers, “burning” an inch to ensure accurate measurements, but that requires a greater degree of error.
Step 3 – Use a level to mark the hangers. Place level on the frame and mark the center positions of the hangers. I used a Vis-a-Vis wet erase marker, but a pencil also works well. I typically make a V when marking any measurement, this makes it easier to locate after marking.
Step 4 – Determine the position of the picture and use the level to mark the wall.
Take your time positioning and leveling: the air bubble should be perfectly centered between the two lines on the level indicator.
Once leveled, your marks are ready to be transferred to the wall.
Make a small “T” mark with a pencil where the mark on the level meets the wall. The center of these marks will be where you install your fasteners.
Step 5 – Hang your artwork and enjoy! My daughter loves this picture, so I do too.
